Edwin van Der Sar's brutal response to former Manchester United teammate Ben Foster's tweet

Manchester United legend Edwin van Der Sar has made a brutal response to former Old Trafford teammate Ben Foster's tweet.

The two goalkeepers arrived at United in the summer at 2005 and were teammates for five years, with Foster departing for Birmingham City in 2010, a year prior to the Van Der Sar's retirement.

They were in direct competition for the No.1 spot but it was a position which the Dutchman dominated during his tenure and became an icon at United, making 266 appearances compared to Foster's mere 23.

Van Der Sar's quality was immense and it would have been hard for any goalkeeper to dislodge him, but perhaps he has revealed another reason why Foster never did.

The now Watford goalkeeper tweeted a photo with his fellow 'keepers from pre-season training accompanied with the caption "Always the hardest workers."

Yet Van Der Sar wasn't having any of it and replied with his own brutal put-down, writing: "True although you needed to learn that a little bit when you were younger..."

Foster appeared to take the jibe in good jest, however, as he replied to a tweet with laughing emojis, but fans in the replies didn't think it was a joke.
