Edwin Van der Sar admits interest in Manchester United job

Edwin van der Sar has dropped the biggest hint yet that he is a candidate for the technical director job going at Manchester United, amid ongoing liinks.

The former United goalkeeper has received plaudits while working in a 'general manager' job at his beloved Ajax, as the Dutch club have enjoyed renewed success, such as last season when they stormed to the Champions League semi-finals.

Van der Sar has been among the names linked with the head of football position that remains vacant at United.

And in a recent interview, he's admitted his interest in a position at United, fuelling speculation that he could become the first man to hold such a role at Old Trafford.

He told Planet Futbol: "Besides my family, my wife and kids and everything I have two loves in my life. That's Ajax, who gave me the opportunity to develop, they scouted me, they gave me the chance to shine in the world of football.

"And the last club of my career, also gave me a lot of attention, recognition and everything, developed at a later stage. And of course I'd be interested, interested in a position.

"But I need to learn a little more here [at Ajax], develop myself further and of course eventually let's see what the future brings.

"United is a fantastic club, there's a great following all over the world. Everybody wants to play for them and eventually, work for them."
