Edwin van der Sar addresses speculation over Man Utd return as sporting director

Edwin van der Sar has dismissed suggestions he is set to return to Manchester United as sporting director.

Former United goalkeeper Van der Sar has been linked with a move back to Old Trafford as Ed Woodward considers a revamp of the club structure.

Van der Sar is in a similar post with Ajax and has played a key role in the club's recent development, which saw them reach the Champions League semi-finals last season.

Ahead of his side's clash with Chelsea , the Dutchman was asked if he would be making the move back to Manchester.

"I have said before. I want to make a success at Ajax," he told BT Sport.

"As a goalkeeper, you need to build your confidence and your strengths and qualities.

"I am trying out and experiencing a lot of different things here.

"I'm not finished, I've got unfinished business here. At the moment I am focused on Ajax."

Ajax have started the season well despite losing key men Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong to Juventus and Barcelona .

But Van der Sar admits the philosophies of the club mean they continue to look forward.

"It has always been the story of Ajax and the attraction of big clubs," he added.

"We are sorry that De Ligt and De Jong left but we are very happy to keep Ziyech, Neres, Onana and Tagliafico.

"If we can keep playing on the European scene, at this level, they are happy to stay here."
