Eduardo Herrera set for Rangers return as flop striker delivers social media update

Rangers misfit Eduardo Herrera is on the search for his next adventure after his spell with Mexican side Necaxa ended.

The 31-year-old, who was one of former manager Pedro Caixinha 's marquee signings in 2017, has failed spectacularly in Glasgow - spending much of the past two years with Santos Laguna and Necaxa on loan.

But Herrera has six months left on his Ibrox deal and another short-term exit could be on the table.

Steven Gerrard is highly unlikely to hand Herrera a Rangers reprieve with star man Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe scoring 40 goals between then in all competitions this season.

Fellow Mexican misfit Carlos Pena had his contract terminated back in February but Herrera remains on the books and a decision over what's next is likely to come soon

And he has paid a glowing tribute to Necaxa on his social media page.

He wrote: "Thank you Necaxa.

"A year where there were more joys that we could share with this faithful hobby. I take great memories of both colleagues, coaching staff, management and all the people who work at the club. I have only to thank you."

Herrera has scored two times in 24 appearances in Scotland but a chance to improve on his meagre goal return is doubtful.
