Eduardo Herrera set for permanent Rangers departure as Mexican side open talks

Mexican club Atletico San Luis are in talks with Rangers to take over the contract of unwanted flop striker Eduardo Herrera .

The 31-year-old has been on loan with Necaxa for the past year, but the deal expired and he's still got six months left of his deal at Rangers.

Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard emphatically ruled out any hope the Mexican international had of earning an unlikely reprieve at Rangers when he advised him to find himself a new club.

But Rangers may be handed a solution that suits both parties with  Liga MX strugglers Atletico San Luis attempting to reach agreement with Herrera's representatives and the Ibrox club to sign Herrera.

The club's technical director, Guillermo Vázquez, said: "We are talking with two players at the moment and their clubs and we hope to announce something soon for the second half of the season."

Herrera managed to score one league goal for Rangers during his ill-fated spell at the club - against Ross County - in 19 appearances, although 17 of them were from the bench.
