Eduardo Herrera set to depart Rangers for good as Mexican international finds new club

Rangers will at last get Eduardo Herrera off the Ibrox balance sheet this week when he signs on at Mexican club Puebla FC.

The 31-year-old 's loan at Necaxa expired in December and it was assumed he may have to return to Rangers to see out the final six months of his contract.

But Steven Gerrard put the kibosh on that idea when he stressed strongly that it would be better for everyone if the big targetman found himself a new home.

And ambitious Liga MX club Puebla are set to take over the remaining time left on his contract and his Ibrox nightmare will finally be at an end.

Puebla manager Juan Reynoso Guzman said: "We are working very hard to bring Eduardo Herrera to the club. It's no secret that we want him here.

"We expect to be in a position to make an announcement in a few days time."

Former Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha splashed out £1.5 million to bring the nine-times-capped Mexican international to Ibrox, but the move was an expensive disaster.

Herrera managed to score one league goal for Rangers during his ill-fated spell at the club - against Ross County- in 19 appearances, although 17 of them were from the bench.
