Edu urged to go 'all out' and prioritise Arsenal midfield signing over Dusan Vlahovic pursuit

There are only a couple of weeks left until the January transfer window closes and Arsenal have a fair few positions they could add to and strengthen in before the clock ticks down.

The Gunners have been linked with numerous players over the summer and this month, with bringing in a central midfielder and striker seemingly a priority for technical director Edu.

Many of Arsenal's striker's see their contracts run out at the end of the season and if the African Cup Of Nation's is proving anything, it's how little depth the squad has in the midfield area.

But, which should be a priority in this window - to bring in a striker, central midfielder or both? On Tuesday's The Arsenal Way 'Agenda' show hosted by Bailey Keogh, Chris Davison (CD) discussed how the club should go 'all out' for a midfielder.

CD: “We’ve been linked with so many central midfielders. Whether it’s Wijnaldum, we’ve been linked with a move with Douglas Luiz at Aston Villa. Bruno Guimaraes at Lyon.

“One of the potential replacements Juve have been linked with to cover Arthur’s exit is Bruno Guimaraes. That’s been reported a lot in the media. There was even a fresh report last night suggesting that Juve are actually trying to push for Bruno.

“It leaves a bit of a sour taste if I’m being honest because I’m a big fan of Bruno as I know a lot of Arsenal fans are. He’s doing very well in France. He’s a long term target of Arsenal's.

“If we get Arthur on loan then that could lead to Juve getting Bruno. It’s an interesting and difficult one. Again it’s not ideal, I’m a little bit annoyed by how this is prolonged because we did loan out Ainsley Maitland-Niles without looking at getting a replacement.

“I say looking but we’ve been looking to add in that central midfield role for a while now. What I’m saying is we didn’t have anyone lined up to come in straight away which would have put us in a more healthier and stronger position.

“The more I think about it and more days pass by, especially with this whole Vlahovic saga, I’m just sitting here thinking 'let’s go all out for a central midfielder.'

“A top class one like Youri Tielemans, he would make such a difference. He really would. He’s Premier League proven and has always been a consistent performer at Leicester.

“Talks have been reported by Charles Watts at Goal, that talks have already taken place with his agent. The more this window goes on, we’re not making any progress with a striker.

“The absentees we have in central midfield and how desperate we are for numbers in that area, I certainly wouldn’t be against Arsenal going all out for a top-class central midfielder like Youri Tielemans or Bruno this window.

“I’m certainly leaning more towards that direction (signing a midfielder) if I’m being honest.”
