Edu told he must prioritise urgent Arsenal solution for £107m striker worry ahead of January

With the January transfer window fast approaching, Arsenal fans are discussing who the club should buy and what areas of the pitch need urgent attention.

The Gunners lost 4-0 to Liverpool over the weekend, which exposed some of the areas on the pitch Arsenal lack depth and quality. The Arsenal Way's presenter and writer Tom Canton (TC) spoke with editor Chris Davison (CD) on Tuesday Morning's Arsenal Agenda show, with Davison explaining exactly why they need forward replacements.

CD: “If we’re looking at the line-up against Liverpool, I want to see an upgrade on Lacazette or Aubameyang come through the door for them. It’s probably not going to be in January unless Lacazette or Nketiah depart.

“In the summer is the right time to bring in a new striker, a top-quality striker who will rectify some of the problems we’ve had going forward. We’ve not had enough goals from our centre-forwards in recent times.

“Lacazette and Aubameyang are getting to that stage of their careers where they’re probably not going to reach the heights that they have previously. Lacazette has failed to score more than 14 goals in a Premier League season.

“I think that Aubameyang has failed to hit those figures over the last couple of seasons as well. I probably can’t see him doing it again this season. So, we need to bring in a top-quality striker next season.

“I don’t care if they cost a lot of money. We need someone who is going to raise the levels instantly and bring that excitement. At the end of the day, someone who is going to bang in 30 goals a season.

“That’s what we need. Easier said than done obviously. You don’t know what the results are going to be. Sometimes you need to take a risk. I know I use Chelsea and Werner as an example a lot.

“But, he was banging in goals for fun in the Bundesliga. Ever since he arrived, he’s struggled in England. We need to be careful and the recruitment process needs a lot of thought.”
