Edu 'targets' move for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as two Arsenal stars book medicals ahead of exits

Arsenal will get their 2022/23 campaign underway on Friday when they take on Crystal Palace in the Premier League season curtain-raiser.

Mikel Arteta was full of praise for his side following Saturday's 6-0 win over Sevilla, with goals from Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka and Eddie Nketiah seeing the Gunners end pre-season in style. The Spaniard dropped a major transfer hint regarding Arsenal's plans before the deadline at the end of the month, admitting the club want to complete more deals 'if the market allows it'.

Technical director Edu has been busy working behind the scenes after already completing five signings this summer, with Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner and Marquinhos all joining Jesus at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners are now focusing on securing a number of outgoing transfers with Bernd Leno, Folarin Balogun and Lucas Torreira all expected to leave on-loan or permanently.

football.london also understands the Gunners have stalled negotiations regarding a deal for Leicester star Youri Tielemans, with the Belgium international keen on a move to the Emirates Stadium.

If Edu does opt against signing Tielemans, then it is crucial that an alternative is signed. A potential option for the Gunners is Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, but they will have to beat Manchester United to his signature.

Balogun loan 'close'

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Stade Reims are now 'closing in' on loan deal to sign Folarin Balogun from Arsenal.

Reports on Sunday afternoon suggested the Gunners were torn as to whether another loan is the best thing for Balogun, or whether he should stay with the first-team squad this season.

A loan move is set to be agreed until June 2023, with Balogun having received proposals from Premier League clubs before opting for a move to Ligue 1.

According the The Athletic, Fulham have now reached an agreement with Arsenal to sign Bernd Leno for a fee in the region of £8million.

football.london understands Leno wants to leave the Gunners this summer in search of regular first team football ahead of the 2022 World Cup this winter after making just eight appearances last term for Mikel Arteta's side.
