Edu Gaspar has the tough task of rebuilding an underperforming Arsenal side this summer.
The Brazilian, who rejoined the club as technical director in 2019, has been busy in the current transfer window, overseeing the signings of Portuguese full-back Nuno Tavares, Belgian midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga and most recently Brighton centre-half Ben White, who joined in a £50million deal towards the end of last month.
The former Arsenal midfielder has also been tasked with offloading several fringe players within the squad, allowing French Under-21 captain Matteo Guendouzi to leave for Marseille before seeing talented young defender William Saliba follow Guendouzi to the Stade Velodrome on a season-long loan.
As reported by football.london back in May, the Gunners are also keen on bringing an attacking midfielder and a goalkeeper to the Emirates Stadium before the transfer window shuts at the end of this month, with a move for a right-back also on the cards if Spanish full-back Hector Bellerin leaves in the coming weeks.
And amid the transfer chaos, Edu's son Luigi Gaspar, who played for Arsenal Under-18s, admitted that he received a plethora of messages urging him to tell his dad to sign players.
"Roughly 100 direct messages on Instagram, each day, telling me to tell my dad to sign a player", he told Gooner Talk.
"I liked a tweet about [Eduardo] Camavinga recently and fans went crazy but just because I like a tweet doesn’t mean they are joining Arsenal."
The youngster also admitted that his father spends most of their family holidays glued to his phone despite several Arsenal fans criticising the Brazilian over a perceived lack of transfer activity.
"I don’t know, I don’t ask my dad this", he said when asked if Arsenal would be signing Leicester City playmaker James Maddison this summer.
"My dad spends more time on the phone than he does with the family during a holiday."
