Edu's next Gabriel Martinelli Arsenal transfer progressing quick after talks as Pepe exit looms

Arsenal’s fresh pursuit of a new forward has started to heat up as the current season approaches its end. Alongside Gabriel Jesus, The Gunners are also reportedly chasing another Brazilian attacker.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, talks are ongoing between Arsenal and Sao Paulo for Brazilian forward Marquinhos. A new meeting took place today, but there are still details to discuss before the full agreement.

This comes after Goal Brasil reported that Arsenal have offered £2.5 million for Sao Paulo winger Marquinhos, who is said to have a £42m release clause. The report adds, that there’s a wish for this negotiation to have an outcome ‘as soon as possible’, with confidence for a ‘happy ending’ for Arsenal. The 19-year-old has broken into the first-team first season and impressed with his pace and trickery down the left wing.

The Gunners are also hot on the tail for Manchester City’s Jesus according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein. It seems that Edu is attempting to strengthen the Brazilian contingent at Arsenal by also signing Marquinhos.

If a transfer goes through, it will be very similar to the Gabriel Martinelli in 2019, where Edu signed the Brazilian without anyone having expert knowledge about the player. However, he burst onto the scene when given chance by Edu.

Mikel Arteta will be hoping for the same outcome if Marquinhos does join the club, as Arsenal are currently in desperate of a forward, and will also need to strengthen in the wing department. Especially with the uncertain future of Nicolas Pepe.

According to Spanish news outlet Superdeporte, Sevilla have made contact with Arsenal over the signing of Pepe. The report goes on to say that the Gunners are prepared to let him leave

This follows news that Pepe’s future is uncertain at the club as according to the Evening standard Arsenal will sit down with the winger and his agent at the end of the season to discuss his future. The winger has two years left on his deal and is expected to leave in the summer.
