Edu's £38m target passes Arsenal audition as Mikel Arteta requests funds from Josh Kroenke

Arsenal could be on the verge of signing the perfect Thomas Partey midfielder partner in Bruno Guimaraes following the news that Mikel Arteta has requested transfer funds from Josh Kroenke.

The Gunners have already been given a quote if they want to sign the midfielder as According to Brazilian outlet Globo, the Ligue 1 side are set to demand £38m million for their defensive midfielder.

Mikel Arteta’s side are in desperate need of a midfielder following Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ loan to AS Roma has created a major shortage in the middle of the park.

Arsenal have been linked to many players to fill the midfield void, however, Guimaraes would be the perfect acquisition, which was further proved with his marvelous assist against Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday evening. The latest in a line of eye-catching performances.

Arteta’s side lack somewhat of a tenacious midfielder who can help take the burden away from Partey who is expected to have a perfect performance week in and week out, due to his natural ability being head and shoulders above every other midfielder.

However, Guimaraes will certainly speed up Partey’s adaption phase to the Premier League, as he has been largely inconsistent this season, in what he himself described as a ‘4/10’ level of performance so far in this campaign.

Partey’s usual partner in midfielder is Granit Xhaka, however, he is unreliable due to the regularity in his injuries and suspensions.

But it is also due to his style of play, as he isn’t a ball progresser and can sometimes fall short with his tackling, which was proved when he conceded a penalty against Manchester City in the Gunners last Premier League game which had a major impact in his team’s defeat.

Guimaraes would certainly offer the two traits that Xhaka lacks and this will help Partey progress as an Arsenal player, which would create a dominant midfield for the north London side.

It is clear Arteta agrees with the notion of a better central midfielder after he called on the Kroenke’s to make available more funds as he said: “I think with the amount of things, and the way we want to evolve the squad, we have to maximise every window in many different ways and we are alert.”

Guimaraes would prove to be an excellent acquisition and it is certainly a deal that Stan Kroenke should give the greenlight in Edu completing.
