Edu proved right with £45m Arsenal transfer decision after what happened in Barcelona win

Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele has been ruled out with injury after his return to action in Tuesday’s Champions League win against Dynamo Kyiv.

The 24-year-old was sidelined for more than 130 days with a hamstring injury he picked up with France during the European Championships over the summer.

Tuesday saw him return to action off the bench, but the club has now confirmed he will be out once again with another hamstring issue.

The injury is now his 13th since joining the club, per transfermarkt, meaning he has already missed 670 days out injured since his switch to the La Liga club in 2017 from Borussia Dortmund.

Arsenal were linked with a move for Dembele last summer, with Le10sport claiming that Gunners striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was trying to force a move for the forward to stay at the club.

Aubameyang and Dembele played with one another at Borussia Dortmund, with the Arsenal striker previously claiming: “He will become an amazing player."

The duo had goal involvements of 76 in their time at Dortmund over all competitions in the 2016/17 campaign. Dembele then moved to Barcelona in the summer for a deal reportedly worth upwards of £120million, whilst Aubameyang shortly followed in January 2018 to the Emirates Stadium.

With Edu linked with a move for the forward in the summer, he would have had to part with at least £45m - according to his valuation on transfermarkt - which now looks like money well saved.

The France international is out of contract in the summer, meaning a move away from the Camp Nou could be on the cards.

Though there may be some caution as to his injury record, the 24-year-old has shown sparks of what he is capable of but hasn’t had the run of games necessary to prove it.
