Arsenal need to make a first-team promise to Denis Zakaria to prevent losing out on the midfielder to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
The Reds are reportedly interested in signing the midfielder on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season, with Arsenal also having been linked with Zakaria.
However, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport , Liverpool are currently in a pole position to sign him, which would be an opportunity missed for the Gunners.
But Edu could promise the Swiss international a guaranteed place in the starting line-up, which Klopp would be unable to do when you factor in the strength of their midfield.
The Express have reported that Arsenal are interested in signing the Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder, in order to solve Arteta’s central midfield problems.
The Spaniard’s side lacks a quality central midfielder alongside Thomas Partey, which would elevate the squad.
Despite the potential that Albert Sambi Lokonga and Ainsley Maitland-Niles possess, they are not yet ready to steer Arsenal towards the top of the league, and Granit Xhaka is constantly absent through injuries and suspension.
Zakaria would certainly be the perfect midfielder to pivot alongside Partey, as they differ in quality.

The Ghanian is a better player technically, while Zakaria is more of a tough-tackling tenacious midfielder, who has the energy to make his presence around the pitch known.
He is also available on the cheap, which makes signing him a no-brainer for Edu, but that is easier said than done.
Klopp is also a keen admirer of the player and has also reportedly shown interest in the midfielder.
However, with the strength of Liverpool’s team, it means he is not guaranteed a starting spot as he would have at Arsenal.
Edu could use this to his advantage to secure Zakaria’s signature, which definitely improve the squad’s quality in the midfield.
