Edu may have already started on Arsenal's sixth summer deal amid 'contact' for £60m transfer

Arsenal's summer transfer window could be about to be kickstarted once Granit Xhaka's move to AS Roma is confirmed.

The Gunners have been tipped to be busy between now and deadline day at the end of August as Mikel Arteta looks to overhaul a first-team squad that has not qualified for Europe next season.

So far, there no new arrivals at the Emirates Stadium - although the summer window only officially opened on Wednesday - and there is plenty of work happening behind the scenes.

In terms of incomings, as reported by football.london last month, the Gunners want to bring in at least five new first-team players amid links to the likes of Andre Onana and Martin Odegaard.

But if recent reports are to be believed, then technical director Edu may have changed his mind on the number of players Arsenal are aiming to sign with five becoming six.

According to The Athletic, the north London outfit are interested in signing Real Sociedad youngster Alexander Isak who will be in action for Sweden at Euro 2020.

However, the report does state that any potential deal that would see the 21-year-old arrive at the Emirates Stadium this summer is dependant on at least one Arsenal striker leaving.

With that said, there are a couple of other problems regarding a potential transfer.

One being that Isak, who scored 17 goals in 34 La Liga appearances this season, has a €70million (£60.2m) release clause in his contract with the La Liga outfit.

And the other being Borussia Dortmund hold a buy-back clause worth only £25.8million in Isak's contract, and the Bundesliga club could well move to scupper any possible deal.

Despite this, Arsenal have reportedly made their move for Isak.

Radio San Sebastian claim that the Gunners have 'contacted' Isak's representatives to find out about the striker's contract situation as he still hasn't put pen-to-paper on a new deal.

This puts Sociedad at risk of facing offers for Isak should he impress at Euro 2020 as Barcelona and AS Roma are also said to be interested.
