Edu is set to secure Arsenal a £5million transfer windfall as they close in on Ben White deal

Arsenal could potentially be extremely busy this week as they attempt to seal the signing of Brighton & Hove Albion defender Ben White.

football.london understands that the Gunners will sign the England centre-back with the two teams close to an agreement on a £50million fee.

Arsenal had an initial bid turned down for White but have bolstered their efforts with a follow-up offer and now look set to secure a deal imminently.

It is now understood that the defender has also agreed personal terms on a move to the Emirates Stadium - a switch that would be the third-most expensive in the history of the north London club.

Despite that, the Gunners may have secured themselves some financial help ahead of any potential deal with the departure of fellow centre-back Dinos Mavropanos.

The 23-year-old was confirmed to have rejoined Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart ahead of the 2021/22 season and is set to remain in Germany for the duration of the campaign.

Having spent last season with Die Roten, the Greek evidently impressed across his 22 appearances in all competitions to seal a return.

The Gunners have put themselves in line for a cash injection with the deal. football.london understands that an obligation to buy has also been agreed upon.

The Athletic also suggest that this obligation could be worth £3million if Mavropanos helps the club to remain in the Bundesliga. This could increase up to £5million when various add-ons are taken into account.

Added to the £500k that Edu has scooped the Gunners for the defender’s temporary services and Arsenal could well be in line for a considerable sum for the former PAS Giannina man.

Should Stuttgart be relegated however, that deal will not be triggered automatically, with the option remaining with the German outfit.

Mavropanos has only made eight appearances for Arsenal since joining the club in 2017 - his last outing coming during the 2019/20 season before a loan to FC Nuremberg.

He still has two years left to run on the six-year contract he originally signed in north London.
