'Edu is no good for the job!' - Arsenal fans hit out at transfer policy after Runarsson error

Arsenal's wretched run of form continued on Tuesday evening as they were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Manchester City at the quarter-final stage, losing 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium.

After drawing level through Alexandre Lacazette's header just past the half hour mark, cancelling out Gabriel Jesus' early opener, Arsenal crumbled in the second half, with City's superior quality shining through.

Goals from Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and centre-back Aymeric Laporte got the job done for Pep Guardiola's side, ensuring they progressed to the last-four.

Whilst it was jubilation for City, Gunners manager Mikel Arteta has been left to reflect on an eighth defeat in their last 11 domestic outings, meaning the pressure on his shoulders has been cranked up a further notch.

If Arsenal don't get the transfer window right they could get relegated

Arteta's decision to rotate his pack for the visit of City certainly failed to pay dividends, with one alteration proving more costly than others.

Summer signing Runar Runarsson was handed the nod between the sticks, replacing first choice shot-stopper Bernd Leno.

The Icelandic goalkeeper, who joined the club from Dijon, appeared to be unconformable from the outset, with his positioning and kicking in the first half raising questions.

It was after the break, though, when the goalkeeper came under heavy scrutiny, fumbling Mahrez's free-kick and allowing the ball to squeeze through his hands and into the net, handing City a 2-1 advantage.

Unsurprisingly, the goalkeeper's error was soon criticised by the club's supporters, who watching on the TV at home.

Unfortunately for Runarsson, it wasn't just Arsenal's supporters who criticised his performance, with former Gunners goalkeeper David Seaman having also had his say.

On Twitter, the former Arsenal man said: "I’m phoning @BobWilsonBWSC #COYG #ARSMCI," making it clear that he would prefer the former Gunners fan to return between the sticks.

Since joining Arsenal in the summer, Runarsson has racked up five appearances in all competitions, conceding seven goals.
