Edu hatches transfer plan for more Arsenal arrivals once £50m Ben White deal confirmed

Arsenal could be set for yet more summer business this summer on the back of the likely £50million arrival of Brighton defender Ben White.

The Gunners have been linked with the centre-back for some time and football.london understands that a deal is close to completion.

The third-highest outlay in Arsenal history, White's arrival would take out a large chunk of the club’s summer transfer budget. Having missed out on European football and with the COVID-19 pandemic still making its financial impact known, funds were thought to be relatively short at the Emirates Stadium.

Nevertheless, Edu has a plan to combat this and ensure that the Gunners are still able to bring in yet more signings as Arsenal look to better a hugely disappointing 2020/21 season.

According to The Athletic, the Gunners are hoping to pay the fee in installments over the duration of a number of years which would significantly reduce their initial spend for this season.

This would then give Arsenal far more freedom to spend in other priority positions in the squad.

Right-back and midfield could be the most pressing issues following the arrival of White.

football.london understands that Hector Bellerin is being eyed by a number of European clubs so his departure would certainly leave a hole in the squad.

Meanwhile, Granit Xhaka, Lucas Torreira and Mateo Guendouzi all look likely to leave, allowing space for another midfielder - that man likely to be Anderlecht’s Albert Sambi Lokonga.

Finally, goalkeeper is a position that needs strengthening, especially with Bernd Leno having an uncertain future and Mat Ryan having departed from his loan spell.

Arsenal have already been linked with Andre Onana, whilst reports have suggested that Sheffield United’s Aaron Ramsdale is under consideration.
