Edu has key transfer advantage that can help Mikel Arteta secure Arsenal's new £47m striker

Arsenal are likely to revamp their leading line in attack after Alexandre Lacazette's contract ends at the close of the season and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is likely to be replaced.

The Arsenal Way's presenter and writer Bailey Keogh (BK) spoke to editor Chris Davison (CD) on Friday morning’s Arsenal Agenda show and spoke about whether linked target Jonathan David is worth the £47 million price tag.

CD: “Well, I suppose it’s who else we’re looking at and who else is available. If we don’t get our priority target through the door or our plan B. Then Jonathan David is a very good option.

“I must say looking at the stats from this season, it’s very impressive. 14 goals in 24 appearances in all competitions so far. He’s young and exciting. Looking at his abilities and attributes as a player.

“I think he’s one of the most suitable options to replace Alexandre Lacazette. In terms of his strengths and build-up play, touches. He’s very hard working as well which is something we associate with Lacazette.

“He’s a strong finisher and his stats certainly back that up. So, at £47 million it’s not the biggest of fees. Especially in this day and age. We are again talking about a young, talented striker who had that big move.

“He was at Belgium with Genk and got that big move of around £25 million to France with Lille. Despite having a slow start he is really starting to kick on and prove why he is one of the most exciting talents around.

“I know Arsenal are long term admirers of the player. Especially when he was in Belgium. Arsenal have an advantage in the sense that they have a good relationship with Lille.

“They’ve got Nicolas Pepe and Gabriel from them. So, it can’t be ruled out. The only sticking point is that he hasn’t been at Lille for long. It’s only his second season there. So whether the club or player want him to move so soon is a different matter.

“But, he should be on Arteta’s shopping list for sure.”
