Edu has identified Arsenal's £32m answer to solve Mikel Arteta's midfield problem

The wait is almost over.

There is now just a few days to go until the January transfer window opens for business, meaning Premier League clubs will soon be set free of the leash in an effort to bolster their squads ahead of the second half of the season.

Whilst the January window may be a period that does not interest some clubs, it could be seen as a make or break period for others.

Amongst those clubs that could use the January transfer window to their advantage is Arsenal, who have experienced a disappointing start to the Premier League season, winning just five of their first 15 Premier League games.

What is likely to happen in Arsenal's transfer window?

As well as struggling for wins so far this term, goals have also been in short supply, with Mikel Arteta's side, who will be looking to make it back-to-back wins when they travel to the AMEX Stadium, having scored just 15 goals in their opening 15 league outings.

Though the Gunners headed into this season with one of the best striker in the world within their ranks, in the shape of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, they were desperate to add a new attacking outlet to the squad in the form of a central attacking-midfielder.

Throughout the summer, the Gunners were heavily linked with a move for Lyon starlet Houssem Aouar, as Arteta aimed to beef up his attacking options.

Though the club tabled a bid for the midfielder, they were unsuccessful in their efforts, eventually opting to secure a deal for Atletico Madrid midfield ace Thomas Partey.

Though Partey has added steel and grit to the midfield, he was never going to be a player that would pull the strings in an attacking sense, meaning the club is short on options to provide an attacking threat from the centre of the park.

Now, the Gunners are set to turn to Spain once again in an effort to bolster their attacking-midfield options, with reports in the national media claiming that the club are keen on signing Sevilla ace Joan Jordan.

The 26-year-old, formerly of Espanyol, has a release clause in his contract of £55million, but Sevilla would be willing to let go of him at £32million.

Though a £32million fee may empty Arsenal's transfer kitty, Sevilla could well be willing to let go of Jordan with minimal fuss, as clubs in Spain are in desperate need of cash because of the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

But even though Sevilla may be forced to let go of Jordan for a lower price than they would have hoped for, they would still be making an £11million profit on the price they paid to sign him from Eibar last year.

Since joining Sevilla, Jordan has racked up 66 appearances for the club, scoring three goals and claimed six assists.
