Edu has already decided Arsenal first two January transfer moves with exit likely

Arsenal director Edu has already decided on the club's next two signings in the January transfer window.

The Gunners completed six new signings over the summer, with Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Ben White, Martin Odegaard, Aaron Ramsdale and Takehiro Tomiyasu all arriving at the Emirates Stadium, with Mikel Arteta overhauling his squad.

So far, the new signings have settled in well at the Emirates Stadium, but Arsenal are still looking for further reinforcements when the January transfer window opens in a few months' time.

football.london understands that the Gunners are expected to target a new midfielder and a defender in the upcoming winter window.

Arsenal signed three new defenders in Tavares, White and Tomiyasu in the summer but Arteta is still keen to bolster his defensive options in January.

Odegaard and Sambi Lokonga were brought in to help with Arteta's midfield options, but another midfielder will also be looked at.

As well as this, a new back-up goalkeeper is set to be looked at if Bernd Leno leaves the club in the next window - which is expected.

Inter Milan have been strongly linked with a move for the Germany international, who has around two years left on his contract at Arsenal, but has recently been replaced as Arteta's first-choice by Ramsdale.

Leno, when speaking in April this year, admitted he was "open" to anything with his contract situation at Arsenal far from certain.

“Not yet and at the moment it's not the time to speak about the future,” he said.

“I know that I still have two years left on my contract and I'm also 29. For a goalkeeper, that's not too old. I've still got some years to go.

“I am very happy at the club. I don't know what will come in the future, but I'm open to everything. Maybe for a new adventure or to stay at Arsenal.

"Like I said, I don't think about my future because two years is a long time. At the moment there are no conversations with the club or anything else.”

Alexandre Lacazette is in the final season of his deal with Arsenal but football.london has learned that an exit in January is unlikely at this stage, and it makes more sense for him to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club and leave in the summer instead.
