Edu has already been told when Arsenal can announce first summer transfer with £50m deal close

Arsenal are close to agreeing a £50million fee with Brighton and Hove Albion for the signing of central defender Ben White.

However, it might be a little while before the Gunners can confirm their first signing of the summer transfer window.

As revealed by football.london earlier in the week, Arsenal were close to reaching an agreement with the Seagulls for White having seen an opening bid of £40m rejected.

But as reported by David Ornstein, the two clubs are close to a £50m agreement now, with Brighton wanting the full fee upfront, while Arsenal are willing to pay £45m with £5m in add-ons.

In addition, there are reports claiming that White has already agreed personal terms with the club.

Therefore all that remains is an official announcement.

But that's not likely to come until after England's involvement in this summer's European Championships as White is part of a 26-man England squad that has reached the last-16.

Despite not yet playing a single minute in the tournament, White is unlikely to be granted special permission to seal his move to Arsenal as Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate has already revealed that deals involving his players will be done after the tournament.

"We are not going to stop phone ringing and cannot control conversations going on in private,” Southgate told reporters at a news conference last month.

"But I think most deals are done at the end of tournaments or in the first week after the end of the season, I would expect any deals to be done after the tournament."

With that said, the earliest Arsenal can announce White as their first summer transfer is next Wednesday as England are in action against Germany at Wembley Stadium.

Of course, this scenario is only possible if England are beaten.

And if Southgate takes the Three Lions all the way to the final, the Gunners may well have to wait until after July 11 to unveil White as the newest addition to Mikel Arteta's squad.
