Edu handed Renato Sanches Arsenal transfer boost as Lille president makes major decision

Arsenal have been handed a huge boost in their potential pursuit of Renato Sanches with Lille president Olivier Letang reportedly open to selling the midfielder this summer.

The former Bayern Munich and Benfica man has been consistently linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium throughout the summer as Mikel Arteta aims to bolster his midfield options.

Rumours went somewhat quiet with the arrival of Albert Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht but with the likes of Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira potentially exiting the club this window, the Gunners could still be tempted to make a move for another central midfielder.

Considering the links to the Ligue 1 title winner, a contender could certainly be Sanches, especially with Lille having made a major decision on his future.

As per Le 10 Sport, club president Olivier Letang has made the decision to sell the midfielder this summer and a sale could even be secured within the next few weeks.

According to the French outlet, Barcelona are one of the main contenders for his signature so Arsenal will certainly have their work cut out should they aim to seal a deal.

Despite having endured extremely difficult periods with Bayern Munich and Swansea City earlier in his career, 23-year-old Sanches has certainly had a renaissance in Ligue 1.

He has made 59 appearances for Lille in all competitions and played a key role as they sealed the French top flight title for the first time since 2011 last season.

The Portuguese still has two years remaining on his current deal at the Stade Pierre Mauroy.

Sanches has previously stated that he is choosing to ignore rumours regarding his immediate future.

As quoted by Le 10 Sport, he said: “Regarding my future, these are only your conclusions, I will not comment on the rumours that concern me.”
