Edu given chance to add £52m to Arsenal striker budget as deals are presented for unwanted stars

Edu can secure Mikel Arteta with the suitable funds to go and enjoy the January window following Newcastle's latest transfer admission.

Arsenal's transfer chief has often struggled to lift names off the books at the Emirates despite his willingness to reach into his back pocket for new signings.

A handful of players teased with the prospect of leaving north London ahead of the season as Eddie Nketiah, Granit Xhaka, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette all reportedly neared exits but the quartet of deals failed to materialise.

However, despite Edu's outgoings saga, he may have just been handed a major boost towards rectifying his summer mishaps seeing as the Magpies' latest January transfer plan has been revealed.

Eddie Howe's side are plotting a winter overhaul at St James' Park and they're looking to build an English spine, as per transfer insider Dean Jones via Touchline Talk.

Naturally, Rob Holding, Calum Chambers, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Eddie Nketiah all emerge as potential targets for the Magpies, making Edu's job a lot easier.

The four English Gunners have a mouth-watering combined valued of £52.2 million according to Transfermarkt and could be enough for Edu to secure Arteta the necessary tools to mount a push for top four.

Newcastle have already been close to securing the services of Holding after a deal was 'all but agreed between both parties' in the summer of 2020, report the Telegraph.

The 26-year-old centre-half could reemerge as a healthy option for Howe as he looks to bolster the Magpie's defence.

Equally, Chambers was also once a target of Newcastle's around the same time that Holding was, according to a report by The Sunday Mirror (via HITC).

The report claimed that Arsenal wanted £12 million for the defender's services despite the Magpies being keen on a loan move; with the club's latest takeover, it raises the question as to whether a permanent deal could be back on the table.

Meanwhile, Nketiah was close to joining Crystal Palace on deadline day however the the Eagles couldn't meet the England youth international's personal terms, according to PA Sport.

The 22-year-old could find that there is a greater chance his financial demands could be met with a move to Newcastle following the side's latest takeover.

Maitland-Niles entertained the interest of West Bromwich Albion last season by arriving at the Hawthorns on loan in January, hinting at his potential interest making the switch to a smaller side.

The London Colney graduate also hit the headlines over the summer after he publicly declared his frustration with Arsenal blocking an exit.

So, with just over £52 million potentially at Arteta's disposal in January, who should he splash the cash on?
