Edu decides on exciting £20m Arsenal transfer as Mikel Arteta makes Folarin Balogun admission

Here's all the news from around the Emirates Stadium over the past 24 hours.

UEFA make Arsenal Europa League announcement

Arsenal's Europa League Round of 32 second leg tie against Benfica will now take place at the Stadio Georgios Karaiskakis in Greece.

Following a number of European games changing venues in recent days due to Covid-19 restrictions in certain countries, the Gunners' second game in the knockout phase of the competition will now not take place in England as initially planned.

A statement on UEFA's website reads: "UEFA confirms that the UEFA Europa League round of 32 second leg between Arsenal and Benfica will now take place at the Stadio Georgios Karaiskakis in Piraeus, Greece.

"The date of the match (25 February 2021) and kick-off time (18:55 CET) will remain the same.

"UEFA would like to thank Arsenal and Benfica for their close cooperation and support, as well as the Hellenic Football Federation, Olympiacos, and the Greek authorities for their assistance and agreeing to host the match in question."

Edu finalising Arsenal's first summer transfer

Arsenal technical director Edu has already turned his attention to the summer transfer window, with reports claiming a deal for exciting Sporting Lisbon striker Tiago Tomas is close to being finalised.

According to the Sun, Edu has been in direct contact with Sporting Lisbon director of football Hugo Viana over a deal.

The report also states that while the 18-year-old has a release clause of £52m in his contract, due to the current economic climate and Sporting’s spending in recent years, it is understood the club may accept a deal as low as £20m.

Furthermore, Edu is believed to have made it clear they do not want to regret missing out on such a player in the future, after former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger came close to signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Sporting before his move to Manchester United.

Balogun race

Bayer Leverkusen have become the latest club to register an interest in Arsenal wonderkid Folarin Balogun.

That is according to the Telegraph who claim fellow Bundesliga side Stuttgart and Ligue 1 outfit Rennes are also keen to lure the striker away from the Emirates Stadium.

Balogun, who netted twice in the Europa League group phase, is out of contract with the Gunners at the end of the season and is free to negotiate with Leverkusen and any foreign club in regards to a pre-contract agreement.

Despite all the speculation surrounding the teenager's future, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta insists the striker wants to stay in north London.

"I'm still very positive that Flo is going to stay with us and it’s what we’re trying to do as a club, and it’s what I’m trying to do as a manager," Arteta said.

"As far as I know from last week again, the player wants to be here. So, so far I’m positive."
