Edu can use clever Lucas Torreira trick to secure Arsenal's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang successor

Let's face it, the current striker situation at Arsenal won't resolve itself and no one exactly knows when clarity will appear.

Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah's futures are not any clearer than what they were a few months ago, but now the club finds itself amongst a new unwelcome saga with former club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Manager Mikel Arteta confirmed on Friday morning that the 32-year-old Gabonese international would not be available for Saturday's clash with Leeds United following his latest disciplinary breach which has seen the captains armband taken away from him. This leaves more uncertainty surrounding his Gunners career.

Even before the latest development with Auba, Arsenal were thought to be on the lookout for a new forward ahead of the summer transfer window. Whether the last week has made it a more pressing issue remains to be seen, but things certainly don't sound all fine and dandy behind the walls of London Colney in this particular case.

Identifying the 'perfect' fit for Arsenal's next striker signing will of course be the most challenging part for the recruitment team, however, Edu can look to exploit links and connections that one of the club's own players have in order to boost the likelihood of securing a transfer target.

It's easy to forget that Lucas Torreira is still our player, although it's clear that he has no long-term future at the Emirates. The midfielder is on loan in Italy with Serie A side Fiorentina, following a spell with Atletico Madrid last season.

Not only does this mean Arsenal have a relatively positive relationship and understanding with both clubs, but it also means Torreira can play an important agent role too. Look at it as a leaving present!

The Gunners have been linked with a move for Portugal's Joao Felix, who is currently playing under Diego Simeone. The 22-year-old made a whopping £114 million switch to La Liga in 2019 but has struggled to reflect his price tag since.

As we have also seen with Thomas Lemar for example, fitting into Simeone's system and style of play isn't always an easy task for players and in some scenarios, it can hold their full potential back.

Felix has only managed to make 89 appearances in just over two years for Atletico, scoring 20 goals and providing 11 assists in the process.

If Felix believes a fresh chapter is needed, Edu could hand Torreira the role of persuading his former teammate that Arsenal would be the right choice for him, with the duo having a good friendship after playing together last season. Arteta is building an exciting young and talented team at the Emirates, so Felix would seemingly be a perfect fit.

Meanwhile, Torreira can also be working on behalf of Arsenal's technical director at Fiorentina. It has been heavily reported that we hold an interest in their star man, Dusan Vlahovic who finds himself in red hot form.

The 21-year-old Serbian has scored 17 goals in 19 appearances so far this season, leading to a host of European clubs keeping tabs.

Vlahovic's contract situation has also put potential suitors on alert after it became clear that he would not sign a new deal with the Italian side.

Joe Barone, the club's chief executive, told Repubblica: "We've offered Vlahovic the highest contract ever in the history of Fiorentina, several times. Both Dusan and his agent made us realise that they do not want to accept. Our bid is still on the table."

Sky Sport Italy's Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that Arsenal made contact with Fiorentina about signing the striker, but his representatives refused to pick up the phone to hold talks over a move to north London.

Although the situation seems unlikely to change, Torreira could once again look to turn heads and convince his current teammate that he should reevaluate his next destination.

This would be a major coup for Arsenal, who would have one of the most in-form players in the game at their disposal.
