Arsenal supporters will be eager to see how much money Mikel Arteta is given to spend this summer.
The coronavirus pandemic has hit all football clubs hard, with little to no matchday revenue as a result of fans not being allowed into stadiums.
Arsenal made two loan signings during the January transfer window, bringing in Mat Ryan and Martin Odegaard from Brighton and Real Madrid respectively.
The emphasis for Arteta and technical director Edu was more on getting some deadwood out of the squad, with Mesut Ozil, Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi all leaving and a number of others going out on loan.
But, following the pandemic, are there likely to be funds for Arteta to spend on new blood?
The Gunners have already been linked with a number of new signings - Jack Grealish, Emiliano Buendia and Tariq Lamptey among them, while Arteta admitted he wanted to sign a new left-back in January that never came to fruition.
All three named players above will cost a sizeable transfer fee, which poses a very real problem for the Gunners.
However, signing two of them would also solve a rather large problem the Gunners have on their hands ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Gunners could only name a 22-man squad when the season began, due to the number of non homegrown players at the Emirates Stadium.
Premier League rules state that every side naming a 25-man squad must have eight homegrown players in it - players who have been registered with an English team for at least three years before the age of 21.
If you do not have eight, the number of players in your squad decreases by one for every one homegrown player less than eight you do not have.
Arsenal naming a 22-man squad meant they only had five homegrown players to choose from.
Signing more foreign players in the summer transfer market would hinder their options even further, which is where Grealish and Lamptey come in.
Both players, having been developed by Aston Villa and Chelsea respectively, would count as homegrown and would therefore give manager Mikel Arteta a bit more leeway with his squad heading into the 2021/22 campaign.
As has been explained above though, finances will be tight, and traditionally English players do not come cheap, which could cause Edu and Arteta problems moving forward.
