Edu can sign £40.5m striker on a half-price deal after Arsenal player's social media upheaval

Arsenal could be given the opportunity to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin for a cut-price fee, due to the discontent expressed by Ainsley Maitland-Niles and his camp.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with the Everton striker, as according to the Mirror , Arsenal will target the England striker as a replacement for Alexandre Lacazette next summer.

Everton were interested in signing Ainsley Maitland-Niles in the summer transfer window, but a deal never materialised.

However, this transfer could be revisited as the Englishman’s game time has been limited in recent weeks, which could change Mikel Arteta’s stance on wanting the midfielder to stay at the club.

The midfielder looked to be on his way to Everton, due to the lack of game time he was receiving, but the move collapsed.

The 24-year-old was used regularly at the start of the season, and in his favoured midfield position, where he was excelling, which made the decision to keep look genius, as he was providing a lot of cover in the central midfield position.

His most recent start for the club was the Gunners’ 1-0 victory over Watford, where he had an exceptional performance, which led to him being awarded with the man of the match.

However, the 24-year-old hasn’t started a game since the Watford match, which is surprising considering the struggles the Arsenal have had in midfield in recent weeks.

The discontent was highlighted by a member of Maitland-Niles’ camp who said on Instagram “I just think it’s funny how, man of the match from the previous game, doesn’t start for this game. Lol, some a** decisions.”

Everton have been disappointing this season, as they currently sit in fourteenth place in the Premier League, which has been down to many injuries issues in the midfield, which could persuade the Toffees to reignite their interest in Maitland-Niles.

Arsenal are in desperate need of a top-quality striker, especially after it emerged that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had been punished for a disciplinary breach, which has put his future in doubt.

Calvert-Lewin would be the type of striker that Arsenal are craving for, and they could be presented with this opportunity if they use Maitland-Niles as part of a transfer.
