Edu can seal £76.5m cash injection at Arsenal to complete Mikel Arteta's next transfer move

Alexandre Lacazette, Willian, and Nicolas Pepe are the three Arsenal players technical director Edu must look to move on in the summer transfer window.

That is the view of former Liverpool legend turned Sky Sports football expert and columnist Jamie Carragher who has also described the decision to sign Willian last summer as a 'disaster'.

Whilst the Brazilian did not command a fee as he was a free transfer after his contract at Chelsea expired, Lacazette and Pepe are two of Arsenal's most expensive signings ever.

In the summer of 2017 the Frenchman became the club's record signing at £46.5m from Lyon - although he only held that title for half a season as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang eclipsed that fee with his £60m arrival from Borussia Dortmund.

However, Pepe's £72m arrival means he's comfortably Arsenal's most expensive purchase and Carragher doesn't believe the winger will ever be good enough to justify the fee.

As a result, the Sky Sports pundit has told the Gunners to get rid of the Ivorian as well as Lacazette and Willian, but stick with Arteta, sign Martin Odegaard permanently.

"It's going to take a lot of pain for Arsenal," Carragher told Sky Sports. "It’s the players, get rid of them. Stick with Arteta and get the young players in the team.

"[Martin] Odegaard has come in and been a revelation, he’s someone you need to make a permanent signing if possible because he’s been fantastic.

"Has [Alexandre] Lacazette ever really been the answer? No.

"Willian has been a disaster of a signing.

"Nicolas Pepe, it’s not his age or his price tag, really, he’s just not good enough and never will be good enough, so Arsenal need to cut their losses there."

Lacazette is approaching the final 12 months of his contract at the Emirates Stadium and whilst a summer exit would make sense for all parties, football.london understands a concrete decision will be made at the end of the season.

There's no indication that Pepe or Willian will be moved on, but based on the trio's individual valuation on transfemarkt, the Gunners could raise a significant sum by cashing in.

In a dream scenario, Pepe would command a £34.2m fee, Lacazette would bring in £31.5m and £10.8m for Willian means Edu could get a £76.5m cash injection to fund a deal for Odegaard.
