Edu can replicate Arsenal's Martinelli trick this summer after Aubameyang linked with move away

Arsenal’s frontline could look very different next season for a variety of reasons.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been linked with a move to Chelsea, with Thomas Tuchel reportedly keen to strengthen his forward options at Stamford Bridge according to The Telegraph.

As a result, the Gunners have been linked with a few strikers, with the latest name added to the list being Internactional’s Yuri Alberto.

According to Globo Esporte, Arsenal have their eyes on the U23 Brazilian international having failed in a move to bring him to the Emirates Stadium in 2017.

However, they face competition from Barcelona in order to win the race for his signature.

Edu must do everything he can to repeat the trick that he used to bring Gabriel Martinelli to the club in 2019, especially if Aubameyang pursues a move to Stamford Bridge.

One year younger than his compatriot, Martinelli was signed from Brazilian outfit Ituano and had a fantastic first season by netting 11 goals in all competitions to relieve the goalscoring burden on the likes of Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

Whilst he has had his problems this season with form, injury and trust from current boss Mikel Arteta, he has shown enough promise to be a real contender to lead the line for the Gunners in the future.

Of course there would be no guarantee of Alberto matching those displays but he has already shown enough to suggest he could be a success.

Following a move from Santos last year, the 20-year-old has scored 17 goals in 49 appearances for his current employers Internacional.

Despite having four years left on his contract with Internacional, it is reported that the Brazilian club would accept £11m for his signature - surely a considerably lower figure than Arsenal would otherwise receive for Aubameyang.

So having utilised his contacts in South America to mastermind Martinelli’s move, Edu could certainly do the same once again as the Gunners’ frontline heads toward a refresh.
