Edu can raise £118m at Arsenal this summer to fund Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar transfers

Arsenal still have a lot of work to do in order to fulfill Mikel Arteta's transfer demands.

The Gunners have already bolstered the first-team squad with two new faces in Willian on a free transfer and Gabriel Magalhaes for £25m from Ligue 1 outfit Lille.

Although, in order to continue with their summer rebuilding, with the midfield still needing to be addressed, Arsenal need to move some bodies out the door in order to raise funds and free up some space on the wage bill.

Arsenal's next move after Gabriel

A Financial Times article this week revealed that Premier League clubs are facing £540million in lost income next season under plans to allow only the partial reopening of stadiums from October.

On Thursday, clubs took another hit when the Premier League terminated its three-year £564million deal with Chinese digital broadcaster PPTV - the league's most lucrative overseas television rights deal - as the streaming service had reportedly withheld its latest payment of £160m, which was due in March.

The article also states that last season the league lost £850million in revenue from match day income, with fixtures played without fans for the final quarter of the campaign, as well as a £330million rebate paid to broadcasters to compensate for a three-month lack of action during lockdown.

Amid links to the likes of Thomas Partey, Houssem Aouar and Odsonne Edouard, it's no surprise that Arsenal are looking to sell before dipping back into the transfer market.

And with that in mind, there's a number of players technical director Edu could look to get some money from and use the cash injection to improve Arteta's squad.

In terms of raising big money, Hector Bellerin has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal could demand at least £30m.

Then there's Alexandre Lacazette. The 29-year-old's contract expires in the summer of 2022, so a decision regarding his future must be made fairly soon and he's reportedly on Atletico Madrid's radar amid talk of a £30m transfer.

Following the arrival of Gabriel, coupled with William Saliba's return, the Gunners need to trim their centre-back options and Sokratis Papastathopoulos is the most likely to leave as Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed his interest.

"We're working to get Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Arsenal, we’re considering him as an option," he said.

However, Sky Sports claim the Serie A side do want to pay a fee for Sokratis and with Rob Holding likely to leave on loan that leaves Calum Chambers and Shkodran Mustafi as the two centre-backs who would bring in some cash.

Despite both currently being injured, Chambers has been linked with a return to Fulham for £12m, while Mustafi is valued at £13.5m on transfermarkt.

Villarreal and Valencia are both said to be ready to bid for Matteo Guendouzi but they would only be loan deals with a commitment to buy in 12 months time.

The same applies to Lucas Torreira, although the Gunners could receive a £7m loan fee from Fiorentina, while Mohamed Elneny has a £4.5m valuation.

Sead Kolasinac is being linked with a return to the Bundesliga, but Schalke want a loan deal while Bayer Leverkusen could tempt Arsenal with a £13m offer.

Arteta's decision on who will be his number one this season could affect Emiliano Martinez's future as there's talk of him leaving for £10m.

Wonderkid Folarin Balogun looks certain to leave this summer, but only if Arsenal's reported £8m valuation is met.

Last but not least is Mesut Ozil.

The 31-year-old is the club's highest earner on £350k-a-week and the club would probably waive a transfer fee if they could find a team willing to take on his wages.

In total, that's £118m Edu could raise via player sales in a dream scenario that would then fund deals for Partey, Aouar, and perhaps another addition to the forward line.
