Edu can copy Man Utd transfer trick to help Arsenal secure Champions League qualification

Arsenal currently sit fourth in the Premier League table as the race for UEFA Champions League qualification heats up.

The Gunners have failed to qualify for the esteemed European competition in each of the last five seasons, with head coach Mikel Arteta finishing eighth in each of his two campaigns in the managerial dugout.

Still, the likes of Emile Smith Rowe, Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka have all enjoyed productive performances for the north Londoners, who are four points ahead of fifth-placed West Ham United going into this weekend's action.

Mikel Arteta's side host reigning champions Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium on New Year's Day, which also signifies the start of the January transfer window as technical director Edu will be finalising his preparations for any potential incoming and outgoings.

Manchester United have already shown the Brazilian transfer chief how vital the winter window can be in the search to secure Champions League football, with Portuguese playmaker Bruno Fernandes firing them to a top-four finish back in the 2019/20 season after joining at the turn of the year.

The Red Devils were fifth in the table when Fernandes signed, six points behind Chelsea in fourth and 14 points behind third-placed Leicester City.

However, the silky midfielder notched eight goals and seven assists to help fire Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co. to third place by the end of the season.

Perhaps Arsenal should look to emulate United in the coming weeks by signing a marquee player to help get them over the line in their pursuit for Champions League qualification.

The Gunners have been linked with a number of central midfielders, with the likes of Renato Sanches and Bruno Guimaraes among those reported to be wanted at the Emirates Stadium.

Centre-forwards Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Dusan Vlahovic and Jonathan David have also been named as potential targets as Arteta's men are thought to be chasing a striker in 2022, considering Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are into the final six months of their contracts with the club.
