Edu and Mikel Arteta have already been told why Arsenal should sign £22.5million Juventus star

Arsenal are in the race to sign Juventus’ Brazilian midfielder Arthur Melo in the January transfer window.

With Ainsley Maitland-Niles looking likely to be heading for the exit, and Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey soon to be on international duty representing their countries at the Africa Cup of Nations, reinforcements in the middle of the field might be high on the agenda for Mikel Arteta and technical director, Edu.

Brazilian Arthur has struggled to establish himself in the Juventus side after his £70million move from Barcelona, with less than 400 minutes on the pitch and zero goals and assists to his name, the 25-year-old could move away from Turin in a bid to reignite his career.

Former Gunners captain, Thomas Vermaelen heaped praise on Arthur when the pair shared a dressing room at Barcelona.

“Arthur is a good player and of course, he needs more games to adapt to the club and style," he said in 2018, as per Football Espana.

“But, his start has been incredible, he has all the battling skills and the technical ability to go right to the top."

Edu can potentially use his connection with the Brazilian national team and his knowledge of Brazilian players to lure Arthur to make the move from Turin to London in January.

With a market value that is less than £23million, and with age on his side, Arthur could prove to be a good piece of business in the future.

Only time will tell whether Arthur makes the move, but the Gunners will for sure be keeping close attention to any developments and pounce if the midfielder becomes available.
