Edu and Arsenal ‘pushing’ to complete £50m transfer after contract offer rejected

Arsenal are reportedly continuing their pursuit of Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga this summer.

The Gunners have been strongly linked with a swoop for the 18-year-old in the past and their need looks even more pressing now with Granit Xhaka edging closer to a move to Serie A giants AS Roma.

Fellow midfielders Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi also appear unlikely to have futures at the Emirates Stadium.

Now, fresh information from French media state Arsenal have Camavinga firmly in their sights once again.

According to le10sport.com, the Gunners are “pushing” for his signature in the hope that they can bring him to the Emirates Stadium.

The Frenchman is out of contract next summer and has reportedly refused to sign a new deal with Rennes.

If fresh terms are not agreed on by at least June 28, the club would apparently be more inclined to sell their promising youngster in the current window.

Despite their interest, the Gunners do face competition in the race for the £50million-rated midfielder.

Paris Saint-Germain are also reported to be interested and would be able to offer Camavinga Champions League football, whereas Mikel Arteta’s men missed out on European football last season.

At just the age of 18, the midfielder has already accumulated plenty of experience.

He has thus far made 82 appearances for the French club and was a key cog as they lifted the Coupe de France during the 2019/20 season.

Real Madrid have also been linked with him in the past.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are rumoured to be considering a host of central midfielders as a long-term partner for Thomas Partey including Yves Bissouma, Ruben Neves and Albert Sambi Lokonga.
