Arsenal technical director Edu may have proven pundit Gary Neville wrong with his efforts over the course of the summer transfer window.
The Gunners and their recruitment staff were slammed by the former Manchester United defender late last year on the back of Unai Emery's departure, the pundit citing poor transfer business.
He said: "It's been messy. The goal last week that we highlighted on Monday Night Football, that one where David Luiz was stepping up against Southampton, we've seen [Shkodran] Mustafi, we've seen Sokratis [Papastathopoulos] too let's be clear - these defenders are uncoachable, some of them.
"I don't know who's been responsible for recruitment over the last two or three years, they've chopped and changed, there have been new people brought in. But if I was in the boardroom at Arsenal I'd be giving them a right rocket."
But efforts over the summer just passed prove why Neville may have been hasty with his comments just six months after Edu's appointment as technical director.
Arsenal wrapped up marquee signings in Thomas Partey and Gabriel Magalhaes during the summer window and also re-signed Dani Ceballos on loan.
Willian joined on a free from Chelsea and last summer's signing of Kieran Tierney can't be discounted, the Scot coming to the fore after the restart last season.
The season, of course, is still in its infancy, but the new signings who have featured have already impressed with Arsenal picking up nine points from their opening four league games.
Arsenal have also improved defensively and one or two players may also be able to say they have proven Neville wrong before the season is done.
The Sky Sports pundit also said: "There's no way Emery is telling David Luiz to step up two or three times, there's hideous things you see from the other defenders and midfielders.
"You think of [Granit] Xhaka the other week, Emery is a man of honour and you see that behaviour - this is much deeper than the coach.
"Emery might be sailing his way back over the Channel this afternoon and be very happy to leave behind what is, quite simply a very average bunch of players.
"There's no way Unai Emery was telling the players to do those things. Some of the things we were seeing on the pitch were fantasy football really."
Time will tell whether Arsenal can maintain their impressive start, but if they do, those comments from Neville might just prove to be very premature indeed, allowing Edu and the Gunners the last laugh.
