Edson Mexer Rangers move hinted at by Ibrox winger Daniel Candeias

Daniel Candeias has hinted that Rangers' move for Rennes defender Edson Mexer may be close to completion.

The Ibrox side are looking to sign the 30-year-old centre back and Candeias has suggested on social media that a deal could be done already.

Record Sport revealed last week that Mexer was a target for Steven Gerrard as he continues to build his squad for next season.

And the defender suggested on Instagram that he could be leaving Rennes as he posted an image of him walking with the caption "Marcher vers le futur", which translates to "walking into the future".

Rangers winger Candeias played alongside Mexer at Portuguese club Nacional for two seasons and his comment has led fans to believe the transfer is going to happen.

Candeias replied to Mexer in French and said: "Le futur ce ici mon frere" which in English means "The future is here, my friend".

Mexer would become Steven Gerrard's fourth signing ahead of the summer with Jordan Jones, Jake Hastie and Steven Davis all agreeing pre-contracts.
