Edouard Mendy's expected return date after injury for Chelsea star

Edouard Mendy made his Premier League debut for Chelsea in the 4-0 win over Crystal Palace, however he might have to wait a while for his next appearance.

The 28-year-old was on international duty with Senegal when he suffered a thigh injury during training.

The new signing has returned to the Blues to undergo further tests, however Mendy is now expected to be out for the next Premier League game.

Frank Lampard's side host Southampton on Saturday, October 17, but Mendy is expected to be out for at least ten days.

Gareth Southgate can't help but mention Mason Mount

That means Mendy could miss the match with the Saints, with either Willy Caballero or Kepa Arrizabalaga coming back into the team.

Chelsea have a lot of games ahead of them in the next section of matches, with the Champions League getting under way.

The Blues play their first match of the competition on October 20 against Sevilla, before they travel to Manchester United and then Krasnodar.

Mendy is expected to be back for the opening Champions League game of the season against the Spanish Europa League champions.

But the goalkeeper is a serious doubt for the game against the Saints.

Before Mendy joined the club, Kepa started the first two Premier League games of the 2020/21 campaign.

However, after a big mistake against Liverpool, he was replaced in the side by Caballero, and the Argentine could be pack in between the stick for the next league match.
