Edouard Mendy reveals what Chelsea dressing room are thinking ahead of Real Madrid clash

Edouard Mendy says Chelsea can rely on their trust in each other and togetherness when they face Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals this evening.

The Blues face the Spanish giants in the first leg of the semi-final aiming to get a good result that will set them up well for next week's second leg.

Mendy knows it will be a tough game but, speaking to L'Equipe, he said Chelsea can rely on their togetherness under Thomas Tuchel to give them confidence.

"It is Real Madrid and in their favour, they have a real shared history, they have won lots of titles together," Mendy said.

"They have experience on their side. But us, we have built this trust, we have really had results with the philosophy of the coach, so we are going to rely on this to take this final step.

"We will go there with a lot of energy and desire."

Mendy has settled in well since moving to Chelsea in the summer, forming a dressing room bond with the likes of English-speaking Callum Hudson-Odoi, Mason Mount, Ben Chilwell, Reece James and Christian Pulisic.

The goalkeeper paid tribute to his teammates for how they immediately made him feel at ease after arriving at Stamford Bridge.

He said: "With them, I am super close, they put me at ease.

"Even if my English was not perfect at the start, they understood what I wanted to say, they didn't make fun of me, they were friendly immediately, and then the competitive side brings us all together."

Chelsea will face their former keeper Thibaut Courtois this evening and Mendy says he knows how to reach the Belgium stopper's level.

He said: "When you are in a big team, the goalkeeper has to perform, to improve, to progress, but the proof is done by winning titles.

"Those keepers already have a great record of achievements.

"Myself, I have arrived, I am performing with Chelsea but you have to translate that into victories."
