Edouard Mendy praised after Chelsea goalkeeper's latest "decisive" display

N'Golo Kante paid tribute to Edouard Mendy for earning Chelsea a point at Old Trafford.

Mendy, a £22million signing from Rennes, continued to justify the decision to bring him in with a series of vital saves, including two from Marcus Rashford.

Senegal international Mendy, recruited to replace the error-prone Kepa Arrizabalaga, was Chelsea's man-of-the-match against United.

Kante said: “He made some decisive saves. He helped us keep the clean sheet.

“It’s good for him, for his confidence, and good for the team.

“I hope he can keep going in this way and continue not conceding any goals.

“It was a difficult game for both teams.

“It was tight in the midfield, it was difficult to get chances.

“It’s a good thing we got a clean sheet away from home, but we wanted to win this game.

"To not concede a goal is the first step.

“Now we need to score more and do the right things to win the game in the future.”

Frank Lampard stated on Saturday his happiness with Mendy, who has already kept three clean sheets for the Blues.

"His performance was very good. You rely on your goalkeepers in those moments in a tight game, not full of many chances.

"Rashford's first chance was a mistake from us, the one at the end was a moment of quality from him. He showed us what he is there for.

"We brought him in for his quality. He showed great composure in the games he's played already and with the saves today in a tight you rely on them moments."
