Edouard Mendy has been named as Chelsea Fans' Footballer of the year following an imperious 2021 for the Blues. Mendy was integral on route to Chelsea lifting the Champions League under Thomas Tuchel, earning nine clean sheets in the competition last season.
The Senegalese glovesman has tallied an impressive haul of clean sheets, and while much can be put down to a solid defence, time and again the 29-year-old has pulled off impressive saves to help earn Chelsea points.
While Mendy more than earned his gong, it was a pretty tight race as he competed with Jorginho, Antonio Rudiger and N'Golo Kante. All have showed shining moments throughout 2021, with Jorginho earning third place in the Ballon D'or vote, Rudiger looking a new player under Thomas Tuchel and Kante earning man of the match in the Champions League semi-final and final.
Mendy pulled away as the standout candidate with 39.2% of the vote, while Kante garnered 29.8%, Rudiger 15.6% and Jorginho 15.4%.
The Blues also had a contender in the national award as Mason Mount., Jorginho and Mendy challenged Mohamed Salah, Phil Foden, Bruno Fernandes, Declan Rice, Ruben Dias and Kevin De Bruyne.
Despite little in the way of team success so far this year, Salah's impressive goals return sees him earn the award for the overall Fans Footballer of the Year, in which nearly 140,000 people cast their votes.
The Egyptian commanded an impressive 61.5% of the vote with Declan Rice his nearest rival on 9.9% of the vote - you can see the full results by clicking here.
