Edmonton stabbings: Police granted more time to question suspect

Detectives investigating a series of five knife attacks in north London have been granted more time to question a suspect arrested earlier this week.

The man, who is in his 30s, remains in custody after he was arrested in Edmonton on suspicion of attempted murder on Tuesday morning.

His arrest came hours after a man, also in his 30s, was left in a critical condition when he was stabbed in the chest as he walked with a companion in Fairfield Road.

It followed the stabbing of four other people in the Edmonton area over last weekend that left two critically hurt and one with potentially life-changing injuries.

Scotland Yard said it is likely all five attacks are linked and the force has been granted more time to question the suspect.

Two other men were previously arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm in connection with the stabbings.

One has been released under investigation but charged in relation to unrelated offences, while the other has been freed on bail.
