Editors get hammered at charity auction

Monkey donned best bib and tucker for Thursday night’s London Press Club Ball 2014 at the Royal Courts of Justice. Prizes in the annual auction for the Journalists’ Charity, MCed by Nick Ferrari, included a print of former Sun and Daily Mirror art director Jolyon Madden’s paintings of redtop editors Kelvin MacKenzie, Stuart Higgins, Piers Morgan, David Yelland, Rebekah Brooks and Dominic Mohan. Former News of the World and Sunday People editor Wendy Henry was among the bidders, but amid all the excitement Monkey lost track of who carted off the specific prize. For anyone who missed out but fancies owning one of Madden’s original paintings – Kelvin and Rebekah have been sold, but Higgins, Yelland (both £4,500) and Piers (cock of the walk at £8,500) are apparently still available.
