On the cusp of 2020, the Democratic Party looks forward _ a reality that both 2016 standard bearer Hillary Clinton and three-time New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg acknowledged this week in ruling out 2020 challenges to President Trump.
We're fans of both would-be candidates, Bloomberg especially, but can't question either call. The opposition party in the Trump era is looking for a fresher-faced dragonslayer, and quite possibly someone further to the left than either Hillary or Mike naturally leans.
Quite possibly, we say. There are moderates in the Democratic field as well as left-wingers and outright Socialists. Senators and governors. The tent is already swelling, and Joe Biden has yet to decide.
But now we can all but rule out Trump getting challenged by a verifiable billionaire, or in a rerun of 2016. Just as well.
