Editorial: This King must go: Defeat America's worst congressman

We break our habit of weighing in only on political contests in New York and its environs to say: 16-year Rep. Steve King of Iowa, an embarrassment to the Republican Party, to his constituents and to his nation, must go.

To share recent lowlights from an ignominious career:

Five years ago, King said that for every undocumented child "who's a valedictorian, there's another 100 out there who weigh 130 pounds and they've got calves the size of cantaloupes because they're hauling 75 pounds of marijuana across the desert."

Two years ago, he asked about people other than whites, "Where are these contributions that have been made by these other categories of people that you're talking about? Where did any other sub-group of people contribute to civilization?"

And he shared a photo of himself beaming alongside far-right German politicians, saying "Cultural suicide by demographic transformation must end."

Last year, he saluted the far-right Dutch politician Geert Wilders, who's called for the Netherlands to ban the Koran, by saying "We can't restore our civilization with somebody else's babies."

This year, King voiced support for Faith Goldy, a Toronto mayoral candidate who has palled around with neo-Nazis.

You know things are bad when, as Republicans scramble to hold every seat, the head of the Republican Congressional Committee cuts an incumbent loose. But that's what Steve Stivers just did with King.

So must voters. Scrape the gum off the shoe of the House.
