Editorial: The FBI and federal prosecutors build a case against Ghislane Maxwell; it must not stop there

President Trump and Attorney General Bill Barr forced out Manhattan federal prosecutor Geoffrey Berman, but they didn't get to slide in an inexperienced loyalist replacement, leaving hard-charging Acting U.S. Attorney Audrey Strauss to run with the baton. Run she did on Friday on one of the office's most vital cases, indicting Jeffrey Epstein associate Ghislane Maxwell for allegedly conspiring in sex crimes against girls.

With Epstein buried with his secrets, Strauss and her team of pros at the FBI must squeeze Maxwell for all the evidence she can provide, and continue to pin conspirators to the wall wherever the facts and law lead. Money and connections shielded Epstein for decades and cannot carry the day this time around.

Maxwell stands accused by a federal grand jury of helping recruit girls as young as 14 to be used and sexually abused by Epstein. The crimes began as early as 1994 and stretched over years across multiple states and countries. Then she lied about it when questioned by the feds in 2016.

We do not know who else were predators in the Epstein-Maxwell scheme. Berman was trying and trying and trying to interview Prince Andrew, only to be sent in infuriating circles. Bill Clinton denies any wrongdoing but associated with the two. Same with Donald Trump, who in 1992 was seen partying with Epstein and in 2002 called him a "terrific guy" who enjoyed women "on the younger side." Did he mean to say girls?

Find the truth. Get the bastards. Every last one.
