Editorial: May-day, May-day: Britain's Brexit crackup has arrived

Bloody hell: After a cataclysmic defeat in Parliament on the elaborate separation agreement Theresa May brokered with Europe, Britain now hurtles off the cliff and into the unknown.

On the current course, the U.K. is set to leave the EU with no deal in place in March.

Which will likely throw taken-for-granted imports and exports with Europe into turmoil. Flummox plane and train travel between the isles and the rest of the continent. And throw a wrench into the gears of dozens of vital supply chains.

Then there is the chaos sure to reign among the million-plus Brits living in Europe, and the 3 million-plus Europeans in the U.K., all of whom will suddenly be made immigrants in nations they thought they were entitled to live and work in.

Britain will struggle to get through all this with whichever untested leader replaces May after her now-certain collapse.

Two and a half years ago, 52 percent of Brits voted "leave" in a national referendum; 48 percent said they wanted to remain a part of Europe. Fear and remorse have since set in. Polling now shows remainers outnumber leavers by a 7-point margin.

Oh bollocks, vote again.
