Editorial: Joe and Bernie's big deal: Sanders endorsement of Biden makes Trump's needed defeat more likely

Less than a week after suspending his campaign, progressive firebrand Bernie Sanders formally endorsed the man who beat him six ways from Sunday, Joe Biden. (Remaining holdouts Elizabeth Warren and Bill de Blasio, call your offices.)

Kudos to Sanders for getting on board the bus three full months before he finally, begrudgingly conceded to Hillary Clinton back in 2016.

And kudos to him for giving Biden full-throated and unequivocal backing. Calling Donald Trump "the most dangerous president in the modern history of this country," Sanders told Biden, "Today I am asking all Americans _ I'm asking every Democrat, I'm asking every independent, I'm asking a lot of Republicans _ to come together in this campaign to support your candidacy which I endorse."

If only Sanders' acolytes would heed the words of a man whose every word they typically hang on. The Democratic Socialists of America tweeted over the weekend that they weren't endorsing Biden. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, says she'll support Biden, but also says she believes the process of unifying Democratic factions behind Biden should be "uncomfortable for everyone involved."

Hogwash. The only thing that should make anyone feel uneasy is withholding full, enthusiastic support for the Democrats' only chance to defeat Donald Trump.
