Because America is sick with guns, because America is sick with angry and disturbed men, because America is sick with partisanship that refuses and refuses and refuses to make it anything but easy for those men to get their hands on those guns, we must now absorb the agonizing details of another mass shooting, this time in Virginia Beach.
Twelve people are gone forever. Three human beings are in critical condition. Countless loved ones will be traumatized for the rest of their lives.
But don't worry: The rest of us will move on. We'll forget where this happened soon enough. We'll forget the victims. After all, we'll have a new shooting to wring our hands over.
This is what we've become.
