Editorial interns wanted - at £6.50 an hour

Hotcourses, the online directory for people searching for courses and classes, is looking for two editorial interns willing to accept a three-month contract at £6.50 an hour.

That's a couple of pennies over the minimum wage but £2.30 less than the London living wage of £8.80.

Applicants are expected to write "simple yet inspiring subject guides to encourage would-be students to learn more."

And "ideal candidates" should have completed or be studying a degree in English or creative writing or journalism, have a natural flair for writing compelling editorial and "be fanatical about grammar and punctuation."

But they will not, of course, be required to be fanatical about money. They might like to know that Hotcourses is not exactly cash-strapped, having just been valued at £35m.

The valuation emerged during a bid for the website by a private equity firm, Inflexion. If that deal goes ahead then one of the website's founders - none other than health secretary, Jeremy Hunt - is in line for a windfall of up to £17m.
