Editorial: Forget the Michael Cohen sideshow. Give us the Robert Mueller report.

Wednesday was a day like few in American history, with a convicted liar on his way to federal prison telling the House Oversight Committee that his old boss, who happens to be the president, was an even bigger liar. But did the testimony of Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump's former attorney, change the national debate as he rehashed stories about Trump spreading falsehoods, paying off mistresses and saying offensive, even racist, things?

It's a sign of the times that it wasn't more surprising that a former confidant of the president of the United States called him a racist, a con man and a cheat. Or that few Republicans actually challenged Cohen's claims about his longtime client, choosing instead to go after Cohen's credibility. The only thing missing from the theatrics was Trump tweets.

But if the hearing accomplished anything, it should be to whet Americans' appetites for the completion of special prosecutor Robert Mueller's investigation into the Trump camp's links with Russian operatives and Moscow's attempts to interfere in the 2016 election. Unfortunately, newly confirmed Attorney General Bob Barr has already indicated that he may withhold parts of Mueller's report that are deemed too sensitive to make public.

Except for information that might damage national security, everything else should be released. Who knew what when? Americans should know.
